i think it would be very interesting to look into the way queer characters written by straight authors are read by queer readers. what signals are put down? what are missed? i ask this bc i am rereading the ASOIAF wiki (again) instead of rereading the novels (again) and friends i did not fucking Pick Up that jon connington is An Homosexuale.

#yes i should read other things #i do!#but a) i fucking love little reveals and those are a masterclass #b) i read so damn fast it doesn't matter #c) lemme enjoy my trash frigg off #loras and renly yes OBVIOUSLY #but a lot of that understanding comes from other people observing them #we never get their perspective #and so the homophobia is the telling part #whereas with joncon it's from his pov #it did NOT ping when he was calling rhaegar his silver prince bc everybody is always going on about how pretty he was #the only bit that did seem gay to me was when he was talking about a man who was ugly but it 'didn't matter when he smiled'#the other tell apparently was that he hated rhaegar's wife but cmon it's misogyny land who doesn't hate women #i also enjoy these books as a lesson in having a good editor and not listening to the voices telling you to add more side characters
